Ames High School Quality Instructional Leadership Team

May 19th
We will be meeting at 7:45 for some social time and treats in the Cafeteria Conference Room. At 8:15 we will begin discussing what has worked and identifying the positive outcomes we've achieved through PD this year. We've looked at your comments from last week, and we'll be sharing these with the full staff, as well as asking for additional comments. There will also be a short survey that we will want everyone to take by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Professional Development History

May 5th
Meet as a large group in the cafeteria conference room at 7:45 am to hear about what a couple of our collaborative groups have been up to during PD time. This will be focused on how these groups have adapted the collaborative group time to meet their needs.

We will spend the rest of the time in our collaborative groups working in one of the three focus areas. Please share what you have been up to during this session on the page you created in this wiki. Make sure you also include what questions you have for QILT and/or what resources you need from QILT.

April 7th
Meet as a large group in the cafeteria conference room at 7:45 am to set our focus for the rest of the school year.

Remember the goals for the rest of the year are:
  1. Explore one or more of the focus areas
  2. Have collaborative conversations surrounding these areas - let's begin to articulate what we do well
  3. Try some things in your classroom
  4. Have more discussions in your collaborative groups about how the things you are trying are affecting student learning
  5. Explain what you have done, reflect on the process, describe how it affected student learning, and what other resources you need for professional development - create a page on this website with your group name and document your reflections there by April 21st.

February 10th

You will be meeting with your collaborative groups today. Half of your group members should bring their laptops and be prepared to talk about the assessment they gave, their three focus students they selected, and their rationale for selecting them. The other half of your group will present on February 17th.

This year all teachers are required to add the assessments they use to the "Assessment" column of their personal curriculum maps. Therefore, individuals should add the assessment they used to complete their forms on February 3rd to their personal curriculum map under the "Assessment" column. Additional notes may be added in the "Instructional Methods" column.

See a QILT team member if you have questions.

February 3rd
Things have been a little disjointed lately with all the weather delays and the ending of the semester, so our professional development activities may seem to be going in 470 directions - we promise, we are going somewhere.

Remember back when... we chose three students to represent different levels in our classes with respect to a learning goal that each teacher selected. These three students helped us talk about ways we could be more effective with our instruction to groups of students at different levels of understanding.

The activities this week will help us select three new focus students.
You will be working individually today to complete these two forms (please complete and email them to Chris Paulson by Friday February 5th):

Here are directions to help you complete the Collaborative Conversation Class Assessment Profile form:

Here are some completed examples of these forms (using some slightly modified forms, but you will get the gist of what you need to do from these forms):

If you have questions you can talk to any of the following QILT members:
  • Michael McGrory: Cafeteria Conference room
  • James Webb: 210
  • Kent Jahn: 12
  • Mike Todd: 49
  • Michelle Fuqua: 27
  • Katie Gustafson: B-2

Reminder: Kent sent out an email about adding your master curriculum maps to your personal account. Please have that completed by the end of the day today. We will be using these maps in our work on February 10th.
